NetWitness originally developed its core technology to satisfy the security needs of high-risk government environments. As global corporations became more susceptible to and aware of sophisticated threat adversaries, the founders of NetWitness pursued opportunities to deliver real-time network threat analysis solutions to a broader customer base. Already profitable and pursued by many investors, the company chose Summit to help it scale.

In 2011, NetWitness was acquired by RSA, the security division of EMC Corporation. Over the next several years, NetWitness became a core element of RSA’s Advanced Security Management Solutions, providing real-time visibility into network activity and adding efficiency to incident investigations and workflow. In 2020, NetWitness became an independent company once again, offering comprehensive and highly scalable threat detection and response capabilities for organizations around the world.

However, since NetWitness Corporation is a former portfolio company of Summit, this individual did receive general compensation in connection with his employment by the company.
