How Summit Partners Helped
- Led a minority investment in 2007, helping to fund a state-of-the-art clean room manufacturing facility
- Recruited Ken Fong, Ph.D., founder of Summit portfolio company Clontech Laboratories, as advisor
- Helped strengthen the company’s infrastructure by building financial controls and improving reporting standards
- Assisted in the establishment of new sales offices in China and North America and helped acquire several distributors
- Provided strategic guidance focused on driving investments in new product development and sales force expansion through critical analysis
- Helped evaluate strategic interest from potential acquirers and select the eventual acquirer
Fermentas had become one of the largest privately held companies in the molecular biology industry, selling more than 1000 products to leading researchers around the world. In 2010, Fermentas was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific.
